They
call me The Doctor, or "Doc". No, I'm not officially a doctor
(no doctorate degree, PHD or otherwise), but a lot of people think I am
none the less, just by what I know and can do. What I DO have is a
genius level IQ (178+) that I actually put to work for YOUR benefit. Now
don't worry . . . Despite this genius IQ, and an even better mechanical
skill set, I do NOT throw around an inflated ego, or have an attitude that
I might think I am better than anyone else - I'm not . . . just blessed.
I grew up the son of a firefighter and police officer (father
[deceased] and step-father - respectively); and myself a Search & Rescue
volunteer/SAR Helicopter Pilot, so I've spent my life putting others first,
even risking my own life doing so at times. It's who I am, and what I do.
So, chances are, unless YOU have a big chip on your shoulder, we will get
along famously - I don't care who you are! I love everybody!

CAPABILITIES...

In
a nutshell, if it (whatever "it" is) can be fixed,
I can most likely do it in the field. All cars & trucks, boats,
engines (gas, diesel, turbine - big/small - inboard/outboard/both), electrical
systems, most computers, electronics, appliances, structures & structural,
and so on. If I haven't played with it yet (in my 30+ professional years
there's not much I haven't had hands on with), then a manual helps, but
in the end I'll just reverse engineer it anyways.
I have massive hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repairing
- not just consulting; but I do that too. I'm even very very well versed
in modifying and re-designing - not just "Jerry rigging" - although,
in an emergency, sometimes that's the best we can do. Plus, in cases where
it needs to be pre-designed from scratch, I can do that too - I am
an Engineer. I am well known for designing tools and procedures when the
factory versions won't work in the real world, or are not available.

Yes, I AM that guy that can do it all . . . That guy everyone
who can't do it all hates with envy (or when I'm lucky, admires) - the
guy everyone who needs help wants as close by as possible . . . and no,
that's not ego - just stating facts for the record. You are here for the
truth, correct? Taking a passage from the movie: "Six Days - Seven
Nights": I'm "the guy you can give a pocket knife and a Q-tip
to and send him out into the jungle, and he'll build you a shopping mall"...
In 30+ years I have seen and done more, and accumulated more collective
skills than anyone I have ever met. Good for me - great for you...
All mainly for the sake of helping all those around me (I have a lot of
friends and family); I love being truly useful.
I am qualified as a Master Marine Mechanic (pleasure craft and
small vessel - sail and power - gas & diesel), a Master Electrician
(Automotive, Marine, Residential facility & Commercial facility - and
a formal education in Electrical Engineering to back that up), Master
Automotive Mechanic (gas and diesel), and Computer Tech/Engineer/Programmer
- I've even worked as a jet, helicopter and piston aircraft mechanic.
To top it all off, I am a Specialized Marine Surveyor (Y,SC),
specializing in materials forensics, electrical & mechanical systems
analysis, leakage, and structural integrity. In the past I worked
as a contractor for several insurance companies as a post fire forensics
specialist.
NEW
DESIGNS AND CONSULTING...

I
have a LONG history of energy efficiency design and application in all
areas, and have come up with some very nice marine efficiency packages
over the past several years. I and my wife currently enjoy the benefits
of this fact on the vessel in which we currently call "home"
- a 33' Irwin Mark II sailboat.
SV Sailabration (home) is 100% self sufficient for long
range cruising - out in the farthest reaches from civilization, being able
to generate 470 watts of power per hour and store enough at that rate for
several days at a time. A Spectra Water Maker ends the reliance on being
close to populated ports. So yes, I have the experience to help you install,
debug, or plan the addition of a water maker on your vessel. All of this
applies to land installations as well - I am as experienced on land as
on the water - probably even more so.
For an example of my efficiency plans, the wattage that ALL of
our normal cabin lights burn per hour (all on at the same time) is less
than 20 watts at 12 volts DC, and we are quite lit up at night - I did
mention that was with ALL of the normal house lights on? We don't normally
burn more than about 10-12 watts per hour, as it gets too ridiculously
bright. These energy plans were actually derived from land based designs
I was contracted to implement before the marine versions.
PERSONAL
INSTRUCTION...

TEACHING
YOU is another BIG reason I am preferred to troubleshoot, repair,
design and build just about anything. Many times I'm brought in just to
teach about systems that are working just fine, be it on a computer, radio,
navigation, electrical, mechanical, structural, and so on. Even systems
that I may have never worked with before, as I am an expert manual
translator (translating technical jargon to normal everyday language).
I WILL TEACH YOU how to do it; what you need to know to
maintain it, what you need to know to repair it, what you need to know
to properly operate it, or even how to design it! I have been doing so
for 30+ years, and I consider myself one of the best teachers on the planet
for anything I can do, know, or reverse engineer. Even if I've never seen
it before myself! Yes, part of my skill set and probably my best advantage
is that I can reverse engineer basically anything out there. Although I
do love cracking into a (good or badly written) manual for speedy
reference.
YOU
WANT THE BEST? HERE IT IS...
THE
BEST SERVICE OUT THERE...
Another
great virtue is IMPECCABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, to go with the
detailed craftsmanship (thus choosing to use "the-craftsman"
for this website). Those two are the two biggest reasons for such a great
history of high recommendations and referrals. To date, this is the only
thing in the way of advertising I have ever done for these types of services.
ALL work in California and Florida has been by referral only - most clients
never even seeing this site at all, or at least not until after the work
had already been done.
RATES...
My
rates are as fair as anyone would enjoy, and I've been known to do
quite a bit of volunteering of services as well (when it is appropriate,
or someone is in trouble). In some cases, you could say I have a tendency
to "flex" my rates. Outside of areas where I am not authorized
to do work (some of the countries we are passing through), then I don't
even have rates. We do things right.
Jobs that have a price, are priced by the job, and in advance of any
work. This way, I can take the time I need to be sure the job is as perfect
as conditions will allow, and you don't need to watch the clock and worry
about your bank account. With that in mind, the exception to this "might"
be going on the clock for diagnostics; again, when it is appropriate. And
if you need to know a base hourly for something like troubleshooting diagnostics,
you can expect some type of block number based on an original $40-$60 per
hour rate (although I've been known to fudge on time in your favor if we're
getting along great). Everything else is by the job, so I can take
the best care possible.
CONTACT...
You
can email me at: chase@the-craftsman.com
Email
response will be within 24 hours when we are in range of Wifi (as I said,
we're setup for out islands, so sometimes there is nothing for 50 or more
miles). If we're out of Wifi range, there may be no response for days at
a time - and this would be the only reason for a lack of response via email.
Voicemail
at this number: 1-772-252-9857, thanks
to a nice little device called a Magic Jack, which allows me to call any
number based in the USA, and to most countries, as long as I have a strong
Wifi signal with good bandwidth (rare in a lot of the Caribbean).
